Detox Foods
Most people think they have to eat next to practically nothing and
feel hungry when they go on a detox program.
This is totally inappropriate!
The truth is, whilst you can probably quickly get ride of some toxins
this way, you cannot achieve meaningful detox as you cannot last without
food for more than a few days. Without the support of suitable
nutrients, the side effects of detox will make you quit your detox program prematurely.
A more wholesome approach to detox is to choose a selection of organic
vegetables and fruits, as well as beneficial nuts, starch and cereals,
to provide the nutrients your body needs to complete a longer detox
program. A longer, gently detox program (of a week, or even up to 21
days) is of greater benefit in the long run. It will help you build up a
healthy habit of eating
There are many very delicious detox dishes. Many of them are very simple
to prepare and so very yummy. Why don’t you try them out whether you are
on a detox program or not?

Principle of Detox Cooking
- The most important thing is not to fry the food in oil, but
rather, add the oil separately. Methods of food preparation that
will preserve the most nutrients are juicing, steaming, boiling,
sautéing baking and roasting.
- Choose only fresh organic foods.
- Avoid all food additives (preservatives, stabilizers, food
colouring and flavour enhancers). This will rule out virtually all
processed foods.
- Avoid sugar, use stevia or natural sweeteners.
- Avoid any commercial sauces for flavouring. Instead use herbs
(virtually all common kinds are good for detox), natural sea salt,
spices, oil (olive, flaxseed, pumpkin seed and coconut) and vinegars
(balsamic and apple cider).

will facilitate the detox process. The following varieties of nuts,
fruits and vegetables should be avoided during your detox program:

Dairy products (including milk, cheese, yoghurt, eggs, butter and
butter derivatives) inhibit the detox process and should be avoided.
Tofu and soy products are non detox food.
Sugar should be avoided as it also inhibits the detox process. If you
crave for something sweet, enjoy sweet juicy fruits such as melons and
mangoes, or add stevia leaves to your herbal teas to sweeten. Stevia is
a natural sweetener used in Southern Amercian tribes for centuries.
Stevia will not increase blood sugar level and are suitable for
diabetics.
Flavouring with sea salt will not interfere with the detox process but
you should keep salt intake to as little as possible. Flavouring with
herbs and pepper are encouraged.
Lastly, during detox you should aim to eat only unprocessed and organic
foods. Food additives of any sort must be avoided, eg. preservatives,
food colouring and flavour enhancers (stock powder or MSG). The easiest
way to ensure you do not eat anything with food additives is to eat
freshly prepared organic foods. |
